Are you looking for new ways to improve student engagement and assess learning? Wondering how to bring the Common Core into your classroom? Then gather your colleagues and register to participate in the 2014 Summer Institute for Arts Integration! This 2-day professional development experience features participatory workshops with master teaching artists Sean Layne and Melanie Rick. You'll explore the attributes of quality arts integration, gaining tools and strategies to feel confident using the arts across a variety of content areas. Summer Institute sessions include:

  • Laying a Foundation: Defining Arts Integration
  • Acting Right: Drama as a Classroom Management Strategy
  • Living Pictures: Reading Comprehension and Assessment Through Drama
  • Reading Art as Texts Across the Curriculum: Observe. Infer. Inquire.

Sean Layne

Sean Layne is the founder of Focus 5 Inc., a national consulting company focusing on arts integration across the curriculum. He leads residencies for students, professional development for educators, and is an arts coach for the Kennedy Center's Changing Education Through the Arts (CETA) program. 

Melanie RickMelanie Rick is a National Board Certified teacher, arts integration consultant, and coach for the Kennedy Center's CETA program.  She designs and leads workshops, in-depth courses and summer institutes focusing on ways to integrate visual arts, poetry and portraiture throughout the K-8 curriculum.
